The City of Cockburn Age Friendly Community Project

How Age Friendly is the City of Cockburn?

What can we do as a community to make the City of Cockburn more age friendly?

The City of Cockburn has received funding from the Department of Communities to conduct community consultation to update the City's Age Friendly Strategic Plan.

The Age Friendly Communities Project is an initiative of the World Health Organisation to ensure communities can meet the challenges of the major demographic shifts as the number of people in the world aged 60 and over will double from 11% in 2006 to 22% by 2050. (WHO Age Friendly Cities a Guide).

"In practical terms an Age Friendly City adapts its services and structures to meet the needs of older people with varying needs and capacities". (WHO Age Friendly Cities Guide)

In the City of Cockburn 15% of the population is aged 60 years and older and this is expected to increase to 20% by 2031.

Consultation for the Age Friendly Strategic Plan has been completed and a draft report will be available by the end of February 2011.
