General Info on hazards & preparedness |

Western Australia faces a range of natural and manmade hazards, many of which have the potential to threaten life, cause injury, damage property and the environment. Local government is the level of government closest to the community & its residents & so is best placed to ensure appropriate plans and systems are in place.
The City is committed to ensuring the safety of our residents & has adopted an Emergency Risk Management Plan & Local Emergency Management Arrangements should an emergency or large scale incident occur (this plan is for the recovery of the community and should be read in conjunction with the State West Plan on recovery)lhttp://extranet.fesa.wa.gov.au/emwa
The States' Emergency Management Act 2005 also requires all Local Governments to establish a Local Emergency Management Committee (LEMC). The Citys LEMC meets quarterly and includes Mayor Logan Howlett, Cr Carol Reeve Fowkes, City staff and representatives from agencies such as FESA, SES and WA Police.

Do you live on a rural or special rural property? The grant has provided funds for the City to purchase a Fire Awareness Training Trailer that will be taken out into the community offering residents in bush fire prone areas hands on training in how to "best prepare their properties" Training sessions are limited and bookings are essential and are subject to Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades availability. If you and your neighbours are interested in having a training session at your property please register your interest with Shirley Elliott on 9411 3386 selliott@cockburn.wa.gov.au |
