About the event

Are you keen to avoid and reduce plastic waste at home but don’t know where to start?

Let’s start in the kitchen and laundry by making your own all-purpose cleaning product and laundry detergent.

Join us for a fun and interactive waste reduction info session with a twist! During this session we will chat about waste, plastic AND you will learn about ways to save money and reduce your footprint on the planet, by making your own cleaning product and laundry detergent.

Not yet convinced you should join?

Did you know that liquid laundry detergents are made up of 60 to 90 percent water? Why? Because large bottles stand out in grocery aisles, meaning the water is a marketing ploy… but it’s just water, right? What’s the issue? Well, the water itself isn’t the problem. The problem is bigger bottles equals more plastic and the weight of that excess water. You see, by adding that much water in order to have larger, more marketable plastic bottles of detergent, you’re weighing down and limiting the amount of space on the trucks transporting that detergent across the continent. Meaning more trucks are on the road, emitting exhaust into the atmosphere, just so we can have big, expensive, shiny, plastic jugs filled with unnecessary water.

Join us Thursday 12 September at 9.30am at Cockburn Senior Centre.

Please bring along an empty jar to take home your laundry detergent or multi-purpose cleaner sample.

Event is free but registration required.

We look forward to seeing you there! Let’s REDUCE plastic at home and SAVE money.
