Thursday 27 February 2025:
WA Police have released crime statistics for the end of 2024, rounding out the year to give a 12-month snapshot of offending across the state.
When the suburb of Cockburn Central made our top 10 suburbs with the highest crime rates in 2022, it was sitting in eighth place. Two years later, it has climbed two spots, thanks to a 48 per cent increase in crime in the last year.


Wednesday 26 February:
ABC Perth's radio breakfast show with Mark Gibson, spent Wednesday morning at Bibra Lake, as the final destination in its five-week Breakfast By The Lake series.

Some of the guests included City of Cockburn Local History Officer Denise Cook, Ana and Lakshmi from The Wetland Centre Cockburn, Karen Clarkson from WA Wildlife and Adventure World CEO Andrew Sharry.

The Albanese Government has signed a four-year contract extension with James Fisher Defence (JFD) Australia based in Bibra Lake, valued at over $90m, to provide submarine escape and rescue services in support of the Collins class submarines.
This contract is essential to supporting a critical workforce and will directly support 46 jobs, primarily at Bibra Lake.

Hundreds of young Western Australians will be trained for an AUKUS agreement defence industry jobs boom if the state Labor government is re-elected.
An $11.5m scheme to fund training for more apprentices in shipbuilding and maintenance has been promised by Premier Roger Cook in the lead up to the state election.

The iconic art deco limestone and red brick hall that dominates the hilltop junction of Rockingham Road and Carrington Street in Hamilton Hill is 100.


Saturday 22 February:
About 7,000 people flocked to the City’s free Beeliar Sun Sets community concert at Success Regional Recreation Reserve on 22 February.

Among the performers was legendary Australian rocker Mark Seymour of Hunters & Collectors fame, who said he appreciated performing at community events because “it reaches people who we might not otherwise get to play to”. Were you among the crowd?

Farrington Road is set to become less dangerous after the WA government announced safety upgrades for the stretch east of Bibra Drive.


Thursday 20 February:
The City of Cockburn will investigate if a fire station closed permanently a decade ago due to a mysterious “cancer cluster” could be recast to cater for Success Netball Association’s long-desired expansion.

Cockburn Council unanimously endorsed a master plan to guide a staged $26m+ redevelopment of the Success Regional Recreation Reserve, subject to future funding, at its 22 February ordinary meeting.

Monday 17 February:
The City of Cockburn has appointed eight new members to its Design Review Panel for 2025-2027.

The panel, comprising experts in architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, and planning, will provide invaluable input into the design quality of significant and complex development applications in Cockburn.
