The new Treeby Community and Sports Centre was identified in the City’s 15 year Community, Sport and Recreation Facilities Plan, and is based in the main town centre, on the corner of Torwood Avenue and Clementine Boulevard in Treeby. The new facility is a flexible space that serves a variety of different purposes and will help increase participation in sport, recreation and physical activity by the local community.

The facility opened in May 2022.

What does the new centre include?

  • Community activity, function and meeting spaces
  • Enclosed play area
  • Kitchens and canteen
  • Multi-purpose sporting clubrooms (overlooking the adjacent park)
  • Unisex change rooms
  • Car parking.
The new centre can accommodate local and regional sporting events. The community can also hire out the centre for events as it has a suitable kitchen, function and meeting rooms, and an enclosed play area for small children. Ample storage is available for community groups hiring out the venue.

An environmentally sustainable design

The new Treeby Community and Sports Centre includes a number of environmentally sustainable design features including:
  • Double glazing to improve thermal and acoustic performance
  • LED lighting
  • Medium Solar PV system with battery ready inverter
  • Increased roof insulation to all areas within the building envelope
  • Water saving fittings and fixtures
  • Water wise landscaping
  • Native vegetation selections
  • Drainage swales directing stormwater into landscaping areas.

Community consultation

The City worked with the community, key stakeholders and a reference group to develop the designs for the new centre. This feedback helped to shape the concept design for the new facility, which was advertised for public comment between April and May 2020. The feedback received was positive, with 96 per cent of respondents indicating they were happy with the concept design.

Expression of interest

The City is now seeking expressions of interests from groups or individuals wishing to become a regular hirer.
