Unclaimed animals

Cats and dogs are not rehomed directly from the animal pound.

Where possible, unclaimed animals are rehomed by a registered and reputable animal rehoming service who can ensure:

  • The animal will be assessed by a vet, vaccinated and sterilised

  • The animal can be matched to a new owner appropriately

  • The property can be inspected and assessed.

It is rare for animals to be euthanised, unless:

  • It is overly aggressive and behaviour retraining is not an option

  • Health and injuries determine it is the best option for the animal.
