PetsWA Centralised Registration System

All existing local government dog and cat registers in Western Australia will soon be merged into a centralised registration system.

Expected to launch later in 2025, PetsWA will replace the registers managed by individual local governments with a single, state-wide system.

The implementation of a centralised system will offer increased convenience for both pet owners and Rangers.

Owners will be able to apply to register their cats and dogs, supply documentation, and make payments online. Local governments will review and approve registration applications online, before issuing a unique registration tag. Some owners may prefer to complete this process by visiting their local government in person.

The State Government will take responsibility for acquiring and managing the database, and is collaborating with local governments to facilitate the data transfer.

With the implementation of this new system, the City is now required to share details regarding dog and cat registrations to the Department of Local Government, Sports and Cultural Industries (DLGSC).

This information may include, but is not limited to:

  • pet details
  • owner details (such as names, contact information and addresses)
  • information on dog attack history
  • notifications of animal seizures
  • infringement records
