Road Closures – Short and Long Term

Long term road closures

In accordance with public notice requirements under the Local Government Act 1995 for road closures exceeding four weeks, please see the following:

Bennett Avenue, North Coogee – from Rollinson Road to Surada Street

Due to delays in undergrounding high-voltage power lines and driver non-compliance with road rules, the current partial closure of Bennett Avenue (northbound) from Rollinson Road to Surada Street, North Coogee, has been revised. A full road closure will now be in place from Rollinson Road to 50m south of the intersection. These works are expected to be completed by 5pm on 31 December 2024. Detours will be in effect via Garston Way and Anchorage Drive, with minimal delays anticipated.

Partial northbound closure of Points Way, Cockburn Central

The City will be undertaking a temporary partial northbound closure of Points Way in Cockburn Central, from Signal Terrace to the Cockburn Central Station Car Park West 2. This closure will be in effect 24/7, starting from 7am on Monday 29 April 2024, until 7pm on Monday 10 November 2025. The purpose of this closure is to facilitate the construction of a new development at 28 Signal Terrace.

The new development at 28 Signal Terrace will include 109 residential dwellings, a 170 room hotel, and three ground floor retail units. To ensure safe manoeuvring space for trucks and mitigate risks to construction workers and the public, a partial closure will be implemented during construction.

Stratton Street and Hurford Street, Hamilton Hill

Due to previous flooding in the area, the City investigated the drainage and found that the current pipes do not have the capacity to convey heavy stormwater to the sump on Hurford Street. To fix this, a new drainage system has been designed for Stratton Street, Hurford Street, and Starling Street in Hamilton Hill. Construction is scheduled to start in April 2024, and should be completed towards the end of 2024. During this time, there may be some temporary disruptions to surrounding verges, footpaths, and crossovers. All property owners will be contacted in advance if access to their property will be affected.

Hobley Way & Sparrow Way, Spearwood

Following previous flooding in these areas, the City conducted an investigation into the drainage system and identified that the current infrastructure is under capacity to handle significant rain events. To address this, a new drainage system has been designed for these areas in Spearwood.

Construction is scheduled to start in November 2024, with completion expected by mid-2025. During this period, there may be some temporary disruptions to surrounding verges, footpaths, and crossovers. All property owners will be notified in advance if access to their property is affected.

Road closures are scheduled on Hobley Way from early to mid-January, as well as from early to mid-February 2025. Sparrow Way will have road closures from mid-January to the end of January 2025.

Edeline Street & Denham Street, Spearwood

Following previous flooding in these areas, the City conducted an investigation into the drainage system and identified that the current infrastructure is under capacity to handle significant rain events. To address this, a new drainage system has been designed for these areas in Spearwood.

Construction is scheduled to start in November 2024, with completion expected by mid-2025. During this period, there may be some temporary disruptions to surrounding verges, footpaths, and crossovers. All property owners will be notified in advance if access to their property is affected.

Road closures are scheduled on Denham Street from late November to mid-December 2024, and again for a week in early to mid-February 2025. Edeline Street will also experience closures from late November through to mid-December 2024.
