An Australian first in global marine innovation
In an unprecedented initiative in Australia, the City of Cockburn is spearheading the creation of a world-class Blue Maritime Technology Hub. This advanced research facility will focus on testing and developing new marine practices and technologies, setting the stage for a vibrant and sustainable blue economy across the globe.
Collaboration, growth, and cutting-edge research
Cockburn's defence sector is poised for exponential growth over the next decade, and the Cockburn Blue Maritime Technology Hub will play a crucial role in facilitating this growth.
As a hub for cutting-edge marine research, Cockburn will pioneer new practices and technologies in the Blue Economy. From sustainable practices to technological innovation, the hub will be at the forefront of global marine innovation.
Joining the Hub will be researchers collaborating across four major universities, specialised registered training organisations for training and upskilling, and PhD students from UWA and Curtin University to deliver research opportunities. Equity investor group Perth Angels and not-for-profits Business Station and Business Foundations will also be on board, focusing on business advisory support.
Solutions for skills gap and community wellbeing
Like many industries, the defence sector is facing a significant skills gap. The Innovation Hub will address this challenge, providing targeted training and opportunities for the local community. Up to 40 Blue Economy businesses will receive guidance, which will nurture a skilled workforce and boost the quality of life in Cockburn.
