City welcomes $7M funding to replace Stock Rd footbridge

The City of Cockburn's response to Cockburn Gazette on 25.8.20 about the State Government announcement to replace the Stock Rd footbridge -

The City welcomes the funding announcement to replace the Stock Road pedestrian bridge which had to be removed for safety reasons after it was hit by a truck in December 2019.

The City conducted urgent negotiations in January with the State Government advocating for Main Roads WA to replace its pedestrian bridge with a similar structure.
The bridge forms a vital link in the shared path network in Hamilton Hill and Coolbellup for pedestrians and cyclists.

Mayor Logan Howlett said he was certain the community would be very pleased to see the construction of the replacement pedestrian bridge taking place.

Without a pedestrian bridge, the only other option for pedestrians and cyclists to cross Stock Road is at the intersection with Forrest Road which is a signalised intersection.
This is not as safe as the pedestrian bridge option which prevents pedestrians and cyclists needing to interact with traffic flow on Stock Road.
