Wattleup Road traffic safety/truck crash

The City of Cockburn's response to Seven News on 22.1.2020 to questions about traffic safety on Wattleup Road, Wattleup - 
 
Question: Have residents on Wattleup Road in Wattleup complained to the council about the dangerous stretch of road? If so how many complaints have been made?
 
Answer: The City has received four complaints about speeding on Wattleup Road – three from residents and one from a community group. In response, the City has proposed reducing the speed limit along Wattleup Road to Main Roads WA. However, Main Roads WA would not support this proposal until the road network and surrounding area is further developed.
 
In 2019, the City collected a new set of traffic data at four locations along Wattleup Road. This data will be used to reopen discussions with Main Roads WA about reducing the speed limit along this road.
 
Question: Is the council in the process of establishing any roundabouts or speed bumps on that road?

Answer: Planned intersection upgrades along Wattleup Road will include roundabouts and traffic islands. Installation of further traffic calming measures will depend on the outcome of the forthcoming proposal to Main Roads WA about speed limit reduction.
Major road extensions and upgrades are planned for the future in that area including the extension of Rowley Road west to the Latitude 32 precinct; the extension of Hammond Road south to the Rowley Road extension; and the
duplication of Russell Road. The changes to traffic distribution in that area resulting from these projects and the layout of the road network in new residential subdivisions will reduce the volume of future traffic on Wattleup Road.

Question: What does the traffic data say?

Answer: The measured speeds were consistent with the sign-posted speed limit last October and the traffic volumes are consistent with the road function of Wattleup Road. However, the volume of heavy vehicles is higher than usual due to the land development activity in the area.
