Aventuur Surf Park lease reaction

The City of Cockburn's response to PerthNow Cockburn on 21 June 2022 about the City's reaction to the Aventuur Surf Park lease in Jandakot

Question: Would the City like to comment on the value of the  Aventuur Surf Park lease to the region?
Answer:
News of the State Government’s lease agreement with Aventuur for the establishment of a multimillion-dollar state-of-the-art wave park in Jandakot is an exciting milestone for the City of Cockburn and our community.

Aventuur Surf Park will be a fantastic drawcard and will only enhance Cockburn’s position as a magnet for families and lifestyle seekers, especially with a population forecast to grow from 120,000 to 150,000 by 2031 and the inevitable pressure on leisure facilities and attractions.

The City is always working to ensure it leverages opportunities to grow economic and employment opportunities in Cockburn and Aventuur is a prime example of that occurring.

Just 25 minutes from the Perth CBD, Jandakot is the perfect location for such an exciting tourism destination venture. It will further activate Cockburn Central Town Centre, including stimulating the night-time economy and transforming the landscape to accommodate further tourism, entertainment and hospitality attractions.

Cockburn Central is very well connected, right next to Kwinana Freeway and Cockburn Central Station, and the imminent Cockburn-Thornlie Link will make it even more accessible – this is great for our economy, construction and ongoing employment at the wave park and our City’s growing tourism offering.

Cockburn Central which is a vibrant combination of mixed-use residential, retail and commercial properties and is one of the fastest growing communities in the Perth southern metropolitan area.

The current catchment area for Cockburn Central includes residential areas such as Fremantle, Melville, Rockingham and Kwinana, with a combined residential population estimate of more than 900,000.

The City of Cockburn is already home to the award-winning Cockburn ARC and Fremantle Football Club, while anticipation is high for the exciting $1b transformation of Cockburn Gateway Shopping City and the first private mental health hospital south of the river currently under construction by Bethesda.
