Commercial development planning application, Hammond Park

The City of Cockburn's response to various media outlets about a commercial development planning application for Gaebler Road, Hammond Park, 16.2.24

Statement:

As this planning application is valued above $10 million it will be decided by a State Government Development Assessment Panel (DAP).

The City is required to assess the proposal and provide its recommendation to the DAP, but the City is not the ultimate decision-making authority.

The City’s recommendation will be based on the State Planning Framework and informed by feedback the City receives from the community and other stakeholders, including via submissions to the City’s Comment on Cockburn consultation website.

While the City is aware of community concern about fast food outlets and their proximity to schools, the State Planning Framework does not specifically prohibit fast food outlets from being near school sites.

The City is required to objectively assess the proposal across a range of planning issues and will provide its recommendation to the DAP for its determination in coming weeks.

Please refer to the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage for further information about DAPs.
