Parking at Frankland Park

The City's statement issued 6PR Radio about Parking at Frankland Park, 8.5.24

This statement was only partially read on air.

Statement:

The City is aware of the Hammond Park Football Club’s concerns around parking at Frankland Park.

The City believes there is sufficient overflow parking in the area.

In addition to the 148-bay parking lot, there is a 75-bay overflow parking site on Parco Glade, 28 additional street bays, and a nearby highschool with additional parking.

These overflow bays are not being used to capacity.

An additional 17 bays on Frankland Avenue are also due to be completed by July 2024

Proposals to use the firebreak south of the facility for parking are unsafe. It is a hilly, boggy and sandy area with no markings and serious erosion issues. It is directly adjacent to a mine site where heavy vehicles operate and trucks regularly use the entrance.

The land itself has been put aside by the State Government for the planned Rowley Road expansion, meaning its use for parking could never be a permanent solution.

Due to clearing constraints, when Frankland Park was designed, it was identified with the club that parking would be sufficient with a fixture of approximately 148 players at a time. That number is now being exceeded.

Refixturing could help to alleviate the peak parking congestion, as well as greater use of the available overflow.
