Alternative basketball centre sites

The City's response to PerthNow Cockburn about alternative basketball centre sites, 13.12.24

Question: How likely is it that two or more smaller facilities will be built instead of expanding the pre-existing Wally Hagan Basketball Stadium?
Answer:
The City has not begun investigating alternative facilities. This investigation is contingent on additional funding being allocated in the Municipal Budget for the 2026 Financial Year.
Council has voted to continue advocacy and funding discussions with State and Federal Governments regarding the Wally Hagan Recreation Centre on Rockingham Road, Hamilton Hill, in order to ensure this important facility is progressed.
No other decisions have been made in relation to alternative sites, or the scale of alternative facility options.

Question: If funding for an alternative basketball facility is accepted into the FY26 budget, roughly when can the public expect a plan?
Answer:
Specific timelines cannot be provided at this stage. If funding is approved for the FY26 budget, a plan and timeline for the project will be developed as soon as possible.
The City’s website will continue to be updated.
