Glen Iris Local Centre proposal

The City's response to PerthNow Cockburn about the Glen Iris Local Centre proposal, 16.1.25

Question: Is this the first public space/community amenity built on the old Glen Iris golf course site since its closure in 2020?
Answer:
This is the first commercial development proposed at the former Glen Iris Golf Course site. The developer has already delivered two neighbourhood parks at the site.

Question: How has the community responded so far?
Answer:
The proposal is currently advertised on the City’s Comment on Cockburn public consultation website and a number of submissions have been received.
The City is not the decision-making authority for this proposal. This determination will be made by the Metro-Outer Joint Development Assessment Panel (MOJDAP), as the applicant has elected to have the application determined through this pathway.
All submissions received will be included within the City’s recommendation to the MOJDAP.

Question: Does the city’s think the centre will benefit the community?
Answer:
The proposed centre is identified on the approved Local Structure Plan (LSP), which was approved by the Western Australian Planning Commission on 13 June 2023. The LSP identified that the area could support an additional 2,500sqm of retail floorspace (incorporating a supermarket and food/beverage tenancies) and would provide an opportunity to be integrated with the existing commercial area on Berrigan Drive. The LSP indicated that it would improve access to essential services to the existing and new community in the area.
