Derelict property on Herschell Way, Coogee

The City's response to 6PR about a derelict property on Herschell Way, Coogee, 11.6.25.

Question: Do you have any details about a rumour that a home which has been sitting derelict for around 30 years in Coogee on Herschell Way will finally be demolished.
Answer:
The City issued a Demolition Permit for 11 Herschell Way, Coogee in May 2025. The property has since been secured with temporary fencing with signage advising of the demolition.

The City believes the dwelling has been vacant for over two decades, and for a number of years was the subject of complaints about individuals trespassing on the property and vandalising the building.

The City made numerous attempts to contact the landowner to resolve these issues resulting in the City declaring the property unfit for human habitation in 2020 and issuing a notice for its removal in 2023.

The property has since sold, with the new owners applying to the City for a demolition licence.
