Mayor honoured with WALGA Life Membership

10OCTOBER2024
City of Cockburn Mayor Logan Howlett has joined a prestigious club, receiving the rare honour of Life Membership of the WA Local Government Association (WALGA).

Mayor Howlett accepted the honour as part of the 2024 Local Government Awards, at the annual WALGA Convention in Perth on 9 October.

WALGA President Karen Chappel AM JP said life membership of WALGA was awarded to those who had demonstrated outstanding service to WALGA, the local government sector and the community over many years.

“With 24 years of service to the sector, including being elected Mayor four times since 2009 and a WALGA State Councillor since 2013, Mayor Howlett joins an incredible list of Life Members who embody WALGA’s values and work tirelessly to represent their communities,” she said.

Mayor Howlett said he was fortunate to have the unstinting support of his wife Pat, for which he was very grateful.

“I would like to praise Pat for her undying support right throughout my local government career,” Mayor Howlett said.

“Pat is always there for me and is so switched on with the community, it's a passion we share.”

Cockburn CEO Daniel Simms said Mayor Howlett was a passionate advocate for Cockburn, and over more than 24 years had served the community that he loves so well with dedication and committment.

Mayor Howlett has lived in Cockburn for 50 years where he and wife Patricia raised their own family, and remains passionate about its future as a growing, vibrant City where people are proud to live, work, do business and choose to enjoy their recreational time with family and friends.

Throughout Logan’s distinguished local government career, he has served on many council committees, including Audit, Risk and Compliance, Economic Development and Organisational Performance.

He has been a member of many regional committees, including the Metropolitan South-West Joint Development Assessment Panel, the Cockburn Sister Cities Reference Group, the Perth South West Metropolitan Alliance, Perth Region Natural Resource Management Committee, the Southern Corridor Alliance, Community Connect South, and the Growth Areas Perth & Peel Alliance.

He has also been a footy coach and club secretary and a member of over 30 community groups from Lions to Rotary.

He is a life member of the Historical Society of Cockburn Inc. and the Wetlands Centre Cockburn Inc, and in 2019 received the Western Australian Volunteer Services Award for his role as a Justice of the Peace since 1992.
