WasteSorted Bin Tagging

WasteSorted Bin Tagging in Aubin Grove

This year's WasteSorted bin tagging program will take place in Aubin Grove. From Wednesday 18 September, and through October, our waste education team will be visiting around 370 households checking under the lids of yellow, red and green bins and doorknocking to answer questions residents may have about being a great sort.

The WasteSorted Bin Tagging Program focuses on reducing contamination and increasing resource recovery from the kerbside collection system. Waste sorting and recycling is a shared responsibility, and everyone needs to work together to ensure the right materials are placed in the right bin. When households use their bins correctly, the City is able to recover more waste and send less waste to landfill, reducing disposal and processing costs.

During the eight week program, waste education teams visit households on collection day, checking under the lid of yellow, red and green bins to confirm waste has been sorted and placed in the correct bin. A bin tag placed on each bin lets householders know if their waste has been sorted correctly.

The team also door knock in the area, giving residents notice the program is about to begin and the opportunity to personally meet the team, ask questions and share their feedback about waste sorting.

Where households contaminate their bin the City may tape the bin shut and issue a cannot collect notice.  Householders have the opportunity to correctly sort the bin and place it out for collection on their next collection day.

Under the Waste Local Law 2022, the City has the authority to issue a fine for severely contaminated bins. This is a last resort and in the first instance residents will be issued with a cannot collect notice. Where a household continues to severely contaminate their bin, and after multiple visits from our waste education team and cannot collect notices being issued, the City may issue an infringement of $350.

Visit the How to Use Your Bins page for more information about the City’s two and three bin systems.
