The City is providing recycling bins in public places across Cockburn. Public recycling stations are divided in two, with separate recycling and general waste areas. The City also provides recycling bins at events.
The City of Cockburn is committed to increasing recycling rates and reducing waste being sent to landfill. New public place recycling bins are replacing the standard general waste bins you may have seen around the City in parks, reserves and other public areas.
The bins are split into two sections - one for recycling and one for general waste. They are labelled to show which items should go into which bin.
What goes in the recycling section?
In the recycling section you can place the following:
- All hard plastic tubs, bottles and containers
- All glass bottles and jars
- Steel and aluminium cans
- Cardboard, paper, newspapers, magazines (not shredded).
Please rinse and empty containers. Remove lids. Do not bag items - place them directly in the bin.
The contents of this bin are sent to the
Suez Materials Recovery Facility in Bibra Lake where they are separated, baled and sent to be recycled.
What goes in the general waste section?
In the general waste section you can place the following:
- Non-recyclable general waste
- Nappies
- All food scraps and leftovers
- Dirty BBQ waste
- Dirty tissues
- Any items contaminated with food (e.g. takeaway containers with food left in them).
The contents of this bin are sent to landfill at the Henderson Waste Recovery Park.
