Cockburn raised charity and volunteer worker Belinda Cipriano is the recipient of the City of Cockburn’s 2024 WA Day Award.
Belinda's commitment to philanthropy shines brightly through her tireless efforts in raising approximately $75,000 for various charitable organisations including Breast Cancer Care WA, the Stroke Foundation, and Betterlife Foundation WA.
She received the award at the City’s annual Pioneers Luncheon on Friday 7 June at the Spearwood Dalmatinac Sport & Community Club.
The first luncheon was held 53 years ago in 1971 to honour residents who have called Cockburn home for more than 60 years.
Presenting the award at the event, Mayor Logan Howlett said the award recognised a community member who had made a significant contribution to ensuring Cockburn was a great place to live, work, visit and invest.
“Belinda has a passion for making a difference in the lives of others,” Mayor Logan Howlett said.
“She held a sold-out Pearl of the Atlantic Long Lunch for International Women's Day celebrating the women in our community, while raising much-needed funds for Breast Cancer Care WA - an event she now hopes to hold every year.
“In addition to her charity endeavours, Belinda has volunteered her time to support Ronald McDonald House's cook a meal program, bringing comfort to families in need.
“Her involvement as a committee member for the Portuguese Women’s Association WA and Portuguese Community Council WA demonstrates her commitment to her community members.
“Beyond her community involvement, Belinda is a highly esteemed media and communications professional with about 25 years of experience in print, television, and digital media.
“Her remarkable contribution to charity, volunteer work, community service, and cultural representation, along with her deep ties to Cockburn, make her deserving of recognition and an outstanding candidate for the Cockburn WA Day Award.”
Recent past winners have included:
- 2023: Lesley Ward - recognised for her volunteer work, cooking and delivering meals to people around the district
- 2022: Rocco Zagari – teaching hundreds of local seniors how to dance
- 2021: Winnie Fatovich – Former local market gardener and selfless volunteer to the Croatian community, for more than 83 years.
