City of Cockburn Mayor, Logan K Howlett JP, on behalf of Council, has announced the appointment of Mr Daniel Simms as the City’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Mr Simms will take up his new position in the new financial year.

The appointment follows an extensive recruitment process aimed at identifying a leader to work with Council and the Administration well into the future given the City’s growth trajectory towards an estimated population of more than 165,000 by 2041.

“Mr Simms has extensive experience in local government in both metropolitan and regional Western Australia, working across many disciplines including planning and development, finance and administration, governance and strategic planning. He has been CEO at the City of Wanneroo since 2009,” Mayor Howlett said.

“Mr Simms has a keen interest in advocacy and economic development, as well as governance, which are key focus areas for the City of Cockburn. He has an in depth understanding of the needs of growth councils and Chair’s the Growth Alliance Perth and Peel Policy forum and is an Executive Member of the National Growth Areas Alliance.

“Council is looking forward to working with Mr Simms to ensure that the City continues to deliver on the community outcomes that are detailed in our Strategic Community Plan and Corporate Business Plan.

“Our plans include a strong focus on our local economy, responsible environmental management, planning for City growth and working together to ensure a healthy, safe and connected community.

“I would also like to thank all the members of the City’s Executive group for their strong teamwork and leadership over the seven months, which has meant that we have continued to deliver for the community across the City.”
