Hami Hill to experience The Four Seasons in one day

Vivaldi's The Four Seasons19OCTOBER2024
If you don’t think you’re familiar with The Four Seasons, a group of four violin concerti by composer Antonio Vivaldi, think again.

Published in 1725, the collection is among some of the world’s best-known Baroque music.

The suite has appeared in many movies and television series, from the 1981 film of the same name starring Alan Alda and Carol Burnett, Pretty Woman, an episode of The Simpsons, in countless software and games apps, advertisements and has been reimagined by musicians through the ages.

Now you can see and hear The Four Seasons performed live by nationally-renowned ensemble Australian Baroque at Memorial Hall in Hamilton Hill at 7pm on 19 October. $15 tickets are available online.

Featuring a baroque string orchestra, the performance will include a reading of poems also believed to have been written by Vivaldi, which directly inspire the interpretation and musical delivery of each season from spring, to summer, autumn and winter.

Perth-based Australian Baroque is also an early music initiative and on the same day, will offer three local musicians the chance to participate in an exclusive masterclass.

People from the age of 12 and who play an instrument at Australian Music Examinations Board Grade 5 level can register their interest to play a piece of music from the Baroque period such as those by composers Bach, Handel, Telemann or Vivaldi.

Each musician will have 15-20 minutes to perform their piece between 3-4pm at the iconic 99-year-old hall on 19 October. The masterclass is open to the general public.

Expressions of interest close on Wednesday 18 September and should be emailed to [email protected] detailing age, instrument and level, and the proposed piece of music. Successful musicians will be notified by 4 October.

City of Cockburn Deputy Mayor Chontelle Stone said the rich and diverse arts and cultural scene was growing in Cockburn.

“We are working hard to make Cockburn a vibrant and exciting place to be, with lots of versatile opportunities to be immersed in all sorts of artistic experiences,” Deputy Mayor Stone said.

“We believe nurturing cultural experiences such as performances like Australian Baroque’s The Four Seasons not only puts us on the cultural map, but helps people of all ages have easy, low-cost access to the arts, perhaps even for the first time.”
