Friday 20 December:
A Coolbellup family has gone all out with the Christmas decorations this year to shine a light on autism.

The verge at the Culbertson family’s Hargreaves Road home is ablaze with Christmas trees, reindeer, elves and – of course – Santa Claus as part of Aspect’s (Autism Spectrum Australia) Shine for Autism program.

Anti-AUKUS campaigners forced a Special Electors Meeting at Cockburn council this week to protest the City’s “lack of due diligence” when formally supported the tripartite agreement earlier this year.

Thursday 19 December:
Tucked away on Perth’s southern coastline in Henderson in the City of Cockburn is an industrial precinct that few outside the community would have reason to visit, but which is fast emerging as the new engine room of the state. 

The burgeoning shipyard at Henderson is preparing for a three-decade mission, culminating in the arrival of Australia’s own nuclear-powered submarines under the $368 billion AUKUS deal.

The State Government is celebrating a successful year of delivering cutting-edge equipment and technology, including a new state-of-the-art 3D metal printer at South Metropolitan TAFE’s Munster campus, as part of the $25m modern equipment program and record investment across WA's TAFE network.
The equipment is providing students at SM TAFE's Munster campus with access to industry-relevant training using the latest technology across a range of courses, including the Certificate III in Engineering - Technical, Diploma of Engineering - Technical, Advanced Diploma of Engineering (Mechanical), and Diploma of Applied Technologies.
With the purchase of the 3D metal printer, SM TAFE can now deliver hands-on training in production of metal components across a range of applied engineering applications.

WA Minister for Defence Industry Paul Papalia CSC and WA Minister Assisting the Minister for Training and Workforce Development Hannah Beazley have announced a $35 million investment in the state’s defence industry workforce.
More than 1,000 Western Australians have already benefited from training opportunities and financial support to launch their careers in WA’s thriving defence industry, according to a new state government report released on 17 December.

Fremantle Football Club and Woodside Energy have agreed to an extension of their long-standing partnership for an additional two years.

Wednesday 18 December:
Western Power has successfully removed 300 power poles and 14 kilometres of overhead cables in South Lake East.


Fremantle midfielder Hayden Young has signed a monster six-year contract extension to remain at the Dockers until at least the end of 2033.

Tuesday 17 December:
Three new bird waterers have been added to popular black cockatoo foraging sites in Cockburn, taking the total number of watering stations to five in time for the onset of Perth’s hot summer months.


A man assaulted a Hamilton Hill woman then ran off with jewellery she had advertised for sale on social media.

Saturday 14 December:
Sculptor Tony Jones has received a State Cultural Treasure award for his work, which includes his sculpture of engineer C.Y. O’Connor at C.Y. O’Connor Beach in North Coogee.


Tuesday 26 November:
Hamilton Hill resident and highly-regarded Australian contemporary visual artist Trevor Vickers, and Fremantle sculptor Tony Jones OAM were among nine West Australian artists to be recognised for their outstanding, lifelong contributions to the arts sector and community at the State Cultural Treasures Awards in Perth.

Vickers’ work appears in the City’s art collection and the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra while Jones has completed several public artworks in Cockburn, including the iconic statue of WA's 1st Engineer-in-Chief C.Y. O’Connor and his horse, offshore at North Coogee.
Monday 25 November:

Fremantle defender Madi Scanlon has been presented with the 2024 Jim Stynes Community Leadership Award as recognition for her unwavering commitment towards volunteering her time in the community.
