There are so many things you can do to live more sustainably, help the environment and reduce emissions. Many of the actions you can take are free, or easy to adopt on a budget.

Walking, cycling and public transport

There are many opportunities in the City for you to walk, cycle or take public transport, the next time you are out and about. Our dedicated page on walking, cycling and public transport provides information on walking and cycling paths, walking groups, public transport options and much more. 

Waste and recycling 

Waste disposal is a very important part of sustainable living. Make sure you know what goes in what bin according to your two bin or a three bin system. Shop second-hand and visit the City’s Recycle Shop at the Henderson Waste Recovery Park for great pre-loved bargains.

Environmental grants and subsidies

The City has a range of environmental grants and subsidies to help you reduce your carbon footprint, including sustainability grants, worm farm and composting subsidies, and native plant subsidies.
