The City of Cockburn uses CCTV to monitor and record activity in the area, as per its CCTV Policy. Cameras are installed at various locations throughout the City and footage is solely released to Police upon request. It is used to detect that something is occurring, recognise what is happening, and to dentify who (if possible) is involved in the activity.
The City also has the following security measures in place:
- An Electronic Display Trailer
- Mobile Ranger/Parking Compliance vehicles
- CoSafe vehicles
- Rapid Deployment Kit - used in conjunction with WAPOL at prime hot spot locations
- Mobile covert camera - used in conjunction with WA Police and the City's internal departments.
The City are working towards the following initiatives regarding CCTV across the City:
- More CCTV, including mobile CCTV.
- Greater use of Artificial Intelligence across the City’s CCTV network
- Advocate Main Roads to install CCTV in pedestrian bridges and tunnels in and around the Armadale Road to North Lake Road Bridge
- Advocate for increased CCTV and surveillance at the Australian Marine Complex, Henderson
The City also provides a rebate for the installation of residential CCTV systems, as well as other security measures specifically for Seniors.
CCTV five-year roll out plan (2022 - 2027)
The City is undertaking a five-year, $1.6 million project to install CCTV throughout Cockburn. By 2027, this initiative will increase Cockburn's CCTV network to over 1,400 cameras, significantly enhancing the sense of security in our communities.
To minimise cyber-attacks and security breaches on its CCTV network, the City has isolated the CCTV system from the main corporate network. This separation delivers multiple benefits: enhanced security, improved system performance, simplified access control, and better compliance. Additionally, industrial firewalls act as a powerful defence, identifying and blocking cyber threats. To further strengthen the security, the City will undergo periodic network reviews conducted by independent third parties.
