The duplication of Spearwood Avenue between Barrington Street and Beeliar Drive, in Yangebup has begun, with work due for completion by early 2019.
Project Background
The City of Cockburn has approved a tender for the duplication of Spearwood Avenue between Barrington Street and Beeliar Drive, in Yangebup.
Ertech Pty Ltd will construct the dual carriageway, including duplication of the existing bridge over the rail freight lines, for more than $8m.
The project will take 40 weeks to complete and will be ready by early 2019.
The State Government will provide $2.46m, the Federal Government $2.10m and the City of Cockburn about $4m to complete the project.
An extra $657,000 will be needed to cover service relocations and Main Roads WA costs.
The entire project includes road construction, street lighting (Western Power), Telstra cables, stormwater drainage, line-marking/signage (Main Roads WA), landscaping, and traffic, environment and stakeholder management.
City of Cockburn Engineering & Works Director Charles Sullivan said the project would begin on site this April and extensive traffic management would be in place along Spearwood Avenue for the duration of the works.
“When completed, the project will provide much improved safety and capacity outcomes for this important link in the road network,” Mr Sullivan said.
“Drivers are urged to take care when travelling through this section of Spearwood Avenue until this much-needed project is complete.”
Mayor Logan Howlett said the City’s partnerships with the Federal and State governments continued to provide opportunities for important infrastructure needs that benefit the whole community.
“Improving travel times across the City is at the forefront of our forward planning which reflects major roads works with the Armadale Road Bridge, duplication of Armadale Road and associated works that resulted from partnering with the City of Armadale,” Mayor Howlett said.
“Current work on the Hammond/Russell roads roundabout will also improve safety in this locality.”
