Why are these changes taking place?

These changes are the result of a community-led initiative that started in 2013. The City of Cockburn supported a community proposal to rename a part of Munster to South Coogee. The name was unsuccessful in receiving State approval as it replicates the name of an existing New South Wales suburb.
An alternative name, Lake Coogee, was proposed by a local community group and received wider community support. Following consultation with the Munster community, the name was endorsed by Elected Members and received Landgate approval in September 2019.

Who has been told of the changes?

Landgate has advised Australia Post, WA Police, St John Ambulance, the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, WA Electoral Commission and the Water Corporation.

Due to privacy reasons, Landgate and the City of Cockburn are unable to change your personal details with banks, insurance companies and so on, so you will need to do that.

Will my address change?

Your suburb name will change, however your house number and street name will remain the same. The City of Cockburn will replace existing signs where necessary over a period of time.

Will my mail be affected?

Australia Post is aware of the changes and has advised that from 30 March 2020 mail will be delivered to either address for four months. After this period, you may consider undertaking a formal mail redirection.

How will existing GPS and maps be updated?

GPS and online maps may take some time to change depending on the manufacturer and their updates.

I keep getting told my new address isn’t valid?
