City of Cockburn Appoints New Design Review Panel for 2025-2027

The City of Cockburn has appointed eight new members to its Design Review Panel for 2025-2027.

The panel, comprising experts in architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, and planning, will provide invaluable input into the design quality of significant and complex development applications in Cockburn.

Their expertise will help shape the City's built environment, ensuring it is sustainable, functional, safe, and reflective of Cockburn’s unique character and vision for the future.

The new panel members bring a wealth of experience, with backgrounds that include high-profile local government and private projects, award-winning redevelopment initiatives, and leadership in state and national planning frameworks.

The panel members are:

  • Simon Venturi (Chair) – Chair of the City of Vincent’s Design Review Panel and with over 20 years’ experience in architecture, Simon has worked on numerous high-profile projects across Perth.
  • Lisa Shine (Deputy Chair) – With more than 20 years of experience in architecture and landscape architecture, Lisa has extensive local government experience and brings a wealth of knowledge to the role.
  • David Barr – Director at Cast Studios, David has contributed to key government projects and was an architectural consultant on State Planning Policy 7.2. He also served on the State DRP from 2019 to 2022.
  • Munira Mackay – Director at Mackay Urban Design, Munira has chaired multiple local government DRPs and won the UDIA National Award for Excellence for her work on major redevelopment projects.
  • Brett Wood-Gush – With over 30 years in urban design and architecture, Brett is currently co-convener of the Urban Design Chapter of WA and previously managed the Metronet Project for the State Government.
  • Annelise Safstrom – With over 40 years of experience in planning and place-making, Annelise has played a key role in significant planning frameworks, including the WAPC’s Liveable Neighbourhoods document.
  • Julie Harrold – An architect and urban designer with over 20 years of experience, Julie has worked closely with the City of Cockburn on the Port Coogee estate and is the Town Architect for the Jindee estate.
  • Adriano Piviali – Director at Motus Architecture, Adriano has over 20 years in architecture and is a certified Liveable Housing Australia Design Guideline Assessor, with extensive experience in commercial and residential developments.

The City advertised for new panel members in late 2024 to replace the outgoing panel appointed for 2023-2025.

This diverse and highly skilled team will assist in ensuring that developments across Cockburn meet the highest standards of design quality for years to come.
