Temporary beach closure at C.Y. O’Connor for erosion repair

Urgent sand nourishment and erosion repair works will take place at C.Y. O’Connor Beach from Monday 19 May, lasting for approximately 11 days (weekdays only).

During this time, the section of beach north of Catherine Point Groyne will be closed daily from 7am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. The beach will remain open on weekends.

The works are being carried out to repair significant erosion in the area. Trucks will be carting sand from the Island Street Groyne (on the Fremantle/Cockburn border) and placing it at Catherine Point Groyne, where it will be carefully contoured and shaped to restore the beach profile.

What to expect:
  • Beach access points will be cordoned off and signage erected.
  • A spotter will be on site to ensure public safety and keep people out of the work zone.
  • The works are expected to finish by Friday 30 May, subject to weather and site conditions.
We appreciate your patience as we work to maintain and protect this important section of the coastline.
