Arts Hall of Fame Guidelines

The City of Cockburn Arts Hall of Fame celebrates individuals who have a strong association with the City of Cockburn and have attained significant prominence in their chosen field of endeavour within the arts.

Guideline Objectives

The Cockburn Arts Hall of Fame has been established to:

  • Recognise and celebrate the achievements of people who have a strong association with the City of Cockburn and have made a significant contribution in their field of endeavour within the arts
  • Be an aspirational resource to inspire current and future generations of the City of Cockburn
  • Be a source of civic pride
  • Showcase the achievements and contributions of the City of Cockburn artists to the broader state, national and international community.

Eligiblity

To be eligible for consideration for induction into the Arts Hall of Fame the nominated individual must have:
  • Lived or have been resident in the City of Cockburn for a substantial period (minimum five years)
  • Be able to demonstrate a strong connection to the City of Cockburn through residency, significant performances, or meaningful collaborations
  • Be deceased or living.

Recognition

Inductees will be honoured through:

  • An induction ceremony

  • Inclusion on the City of Cockburn Arts Wall of Fame located at Memorial Hall in Hamilton Hill

  • Inclusion on the City of Cockburn website and relevant publications such as media releases or editorials.

Nominations

  • Nominations to the Arts Hall of Fame will be called every three years and must be submitted via the City of Cockburn Arts Hall of Fame Nomination Form which is available on the City of Cockburn website

  • Documentary evidence to support and verify the application must be included    

  • Nominations can be made by any person or organisation

  • Nominations will be accepted for individuals who are deceased.

Assessment Process

  • Nominations are assessed in accordance with the selection criteria outlined in the Arts Hall of Fame Policy

  • Nominations are assessed by an internal assessment panel who make recommendations to council for endorsement.  

Selection Criteria

Nominees will be assessed under the following selection criteria:

  1. Demonstrate outstanding artistic achievement and contribution to the arts at a local, national, and/or international level

  2. Demonstrated cultural impact within The City of Cockburn, Western Australia, Australia and/or internationally

  3. Recognised accomplishments, awards or critical acclaim that reflect and demonstrate a commitment to excellence and professionalism in the arts.

Note: Fame or celebrity is not used as a measure of achievement.

Achievement Recognition

There are many ways of recognising achievement in the arts including film, theatre, music, visual, literary and performing arts some of these might include (but are not limited to):

  • Receipt of awards at a state, national or international level in recognition of artistic endeavour
  • Publication of a work of literary significance, e.g. a major best seller, a work recognised by peers as being of significant merit
  • Exhibition of work at a gallery of state or national status
  • Performing or production member of a national company or a company of national status
  • Significant contribution to the production of a nationally or internationally acclaimed film, television or stage production
  • Receipt of an award at a state, national or international level in recognition of journalism
  • An arts professional who has made significant contributions to the arts through their work playing a crucial role in supporting and enhancing the creative process
  • All Nominees will be invited to an official awards ceremony.
Council reserves the right to withdraw inductees from the Arts Hall fo Fame if considered inappropriate for the inductee to remain.
