The City’s Local Planning Strategy has now been endorsed by the Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC) for final approval.
The final Local Planning Strategy can be viewed at the following link: City of Cockburn Local Planning Strategy (2024)
The Local Planning Strategy outlines the City’s 10–15-year plan, addressing key issues such as housing, employment, business activity, transportation, and public open space.
It also serves as a blueprint for the new local planning scheme (draft Local Planning Scheme No. 13), that will replace Town Planning Scheme No. 3.
Draft Local Planning Scheme No. 13 is currently being considered by the WAPC for endorsement for advertising, and will be advertised for public comment in 2025.
The draft Local Planning Strategy was advertised for public comment in 2022 and considered by Council at the 13 April 2023 Ordinary Council Meeting. Council considered the 241 public submissions and officer’s recommendation, supporting the strategy subject to modifications.
The WAPC subsequently endorsed the Local Planning Strategy subject to modifications at their Statutory Planning Committee (SPC) Meeting held on 13 February 2024. The minutes of the meeting can be viewed on the SPC Agenda and Minutes page of the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage website, and the final document reflects these required changes.
