Cockburn Central Activity Centre Strategy

The Cockburn Central Activity Centre Strategy confirms the vision for Cockburn Central and details the key actions required to support the maturity of the centre. The strategy covers a number of actions to manage and support the growth of the area, including important road network improvements such as the Armadale Road and North Lake Road Bridge Interchange project. The action plan in the Related Documents area below summarises the outcomes and key actions of the strategy.

Aim of the Cockburn Central Activity Centre Strategy

The Cockburn Central Activity Centre Strategy seeks to:

• Progress the delivery of the Armadale Road and North Lake Road Bridge Interchange project addressing significant congestion issues both at a regional and local accessibility scale;
• Implement a Greening Concept Plan across the activity centre;
• Monitor the performance of the activity centre at regular intervals against the objectives identified within the City's Local Commercial and Activity Centre Strategy (LCACS);
• Continue to lobby state agencies regarding key infrastructure projects;
• Work with Cockburn Gateway Shopping City to investigate suitable parking strategies into the future;
• Upgrade and revitalise Beeliar Drive - Core Area; and
• Investigate options to attract strategic employment to Cockburn Central.

Structure plans are adopted for most areas within Cockburn Central and it is not the intent of the strategy to override any adopted structure plan. The intent is to provide broad strategic long term guidance to ensure a consistent approach across the activity centre area and to guide any further structure plans or structure plan amendments.

The strategy builds on the surrounding structure plans guiding the development of:

• Cockburn Gateway Shopping City;
• Cockburn Central West;
• Cockburn Town Centre;
• Cockburn Central North (Muriel Court); and
• Cockburn Central East.
