Your Move Schools Program

Your Move Schools Program

The Your Move program is free and encourages students to walk and ride to school. Learn why walking and riding are easier and better than getting
into a car and trying to find a car park.

Benefits of the program include:

  • Increased physical activity for students
  • Reduced traffic congestion at drop off and pick up times
  • Access to support, resources and funding opportunities.

The program is led by a school champion (school staff member or parent), but the success of school involvement is mainly dependent on having a student team.

Visit the Your Move website for ideas, resources and tools, merchandise and financial rewards for helping families walk or ride to school.

Please contact [email protected] or call 08 6551 6040 for more information.

Student Leadership Opportunity

A 'Your Move' Student Leadership Team can assist the school to tackle travel issues at the school. Students are key players in changing the school's social norms, so it's great to include them in planning events, brainstorming or decision-making.

Students build essential teamwork and leadership skills as they help implement changes in their school community.

Students are responsible for:

  • Representing the school community as part of the Your Move Program
  • Helping survey and consult the school community to measure progress towards increasing the number of students who walk, ride or scoot to school
  • Investigating the problems caused by traffic congestion and road safety issues
  • Writing stories about the events and initiatives that are being planned and happening at the school for the website, newsletters, assembly presentations and encourage competition entries, promote events etc.
  • Thinking creatively, having fun and being innovative to get the whole school community excited about Your Move
  • Looking at all the schools stories on the Your Move website to get ideas of how to make changes and win reward prizes.

These are the top two Cockburn schools currently signed up:

  • Hammond Park Primary School is the top Your Move School in the City and has received many financial and merchandise rewards for being involved
  • Treeby Primary School also received a major grant in 2023 for shade sails over bike parking area.
